50 MARATHONS, 50 STATES, 24 DAYS

William Goodge, 32, of Amptill in the UK, is currently training for Mission America, comprising the challenge of running 50 marathons in the 50 states in just 24 days.

In October, Goodge will aim to average 88km (55 miles) per day, plus travel between states by plane or the team’s motorhome. Due to the planning for this feat, all of the marathons have to be done in five hours or less.

Goodge will run:

  • one marathon a day on two dates (Hawaii on day one, and the New York City Marathon on day 24);

  • two marathons a day (84.4km or 52.4 miles) on 18 days of the days.

  • three marathons (126.6km or 78.6 miles) on four of the days.

Due to the strict plan and time constraint, speed work has to be part of this block (Goodge, 2026).

Who is Will Goodge?

Goodge is a well established name in the ultramarathon community, previously breaking the unofficial world record for the fastest Briton to run across the USA from west to east in 2023.

He also broke the unofficial world record for running the width of Australia from Perth to Sydney in 2025. Goodge’s athletic feats go on; he has ran from John O’Groats to Land’s End, across Japan, and completed 43/30 (involving 43 marathons in 43 UK counties, in 30 days).
