50 Marathons, 50 States, 24 days
William Goodge, 31, of Amptill in the United Kingdom, is currently training for Project States, where he will endure 50 marathons in the 50 USA states in only 24 days.
Goodge will be averaging 88km (55 miles) per day, plus travel between states by plane or the team’s motorhome. Due to the planning for this feat, all of the marathons have to be done in five hours or less. There are scheduled to be two dates of only one marathon (Hawaii on day one, and the New York City Marathon on day 24). Four dates are planned for three marathons (126.6km or 78.6 miles). Leaving 18 days of two marathons per day (84.4km or 52.4 miles). Due to the rigid plan and strict time constraint, speed work is part of this block (Goodge, 2026).
Goodge is well established in the ultra-running community; in fact, Goodge has previously broken the unofficial world record for the fastest Briton to run across the USA from west to east in 2023. Goodge also broke the unofficial world record for running the width of Australia from Perth to Sydney in 2025. Goodge’s athletic feats go on; he has run from John O’Groats to Land’s End, run across Japan, and run 43/30 (involving 43 marathons in 43 UK counties, in 30 days).
This is not Goodge’s first rodeo, to say the least.
This challenge begins in October 2026.
